Holy Wars, Holy Tears

In the last years the fast grow of online gaming market brought also the roleplay online platforms out of their traditional niche of gamers/roleplayer to a larger crowd of consumers. This new players generally haven’t a proper roleplay or gaming experience and not used to deal with concepts and mechanics that are obvious to any “old-school” roleplayer.
Why do we care for this? Because this new kind of players/consumers in the last years are also floodding SL places and play systems more oriented to roleplay. They come from MMORPG like World of Warraft, Guild Wars, Aion, Diablo... They are used to game mechanics shaped by the game industry to cuddle them (and their wallets): they expect simplcity and ease,  their gameplay background is focused on interaction with AI bots and scripted roleplay scenarios  more than with other players.

However the mainstream MMORPG industry model cannot be really applied to SL, not even in respect of the most “game oriented” part of SL. SL roleplay and gaming contents can be only based on proper IC interactions

So when something goes bad for their characters, when the events get an unexpected/unwilled direction, when something negative happens IC they starts to rage up, start some OOC drama, open tickets to GMs, post their whines on some forum and so on; they’re blunty unable to deal with the IC events flow dynamics:

“What? I was defeated, this is imposisble! So what now... Is not like in World of Warcraft where I respawn after 20 seconds in some safe place without suffering any lasting consequence?! Omg, now have I to roleplay it???”

I deeply dislike this kind of immature players increasing also in SL RP sims: I think an adult unable to deal with a game/fictional environment without acting like a crybabies, griefing  and ruining other people game experience deserve no respect and need to be educated or kicked back to play WoW.

Owners, Admins, GMs leaving room in Sl to this kind of crybabies fail in doing a good job.

And so it begins... the second part of the post.

I am a pervert. In my perversion I really enjoy the tears coming from the kind of players just described in the first part. The sweet sound of their whines when they have to face their unability to deal with a game/fictional setting without living it as a real life drama... Their ranting and crying like babies when their SL avatar is stucked for 5 minutes in some defeat animation... These tears feed our fun and our gameplay:  Whiners tears best tears.

My friends know about my perversions so they nicely send me forum posts, chats, conversations about this.

One of the last I recived is a post ftom the NOR forum by a kid called MikronRavenOak2 Darrow.

I’m picking up this because this guy perfectly fit in the crybaby archetype I described. He was used to grief lower-levels pretending to dictate them his own (poor and noobish) roleplay. Later, when those lower level he harrassed came back with some big gun backup to give a proper IC follow-up he systematically cheated a rolpelay scene where he had to face IC logic consequences for his IC actions. Stuff like:

- Switching no-combattive and “I’m in astral form, I cannot be touched”
- “I’m invulnerable,  my body is made of firestone from Hell”
- “yes, I am using a jump enhancher, but I’m allowed to, cause in my personal rolepaly I am a superior being able to do it”

Nothing too strange, just the ususal stuff  can happen to  find around in SL  RP sim from people unable to give a proper sense to the  IC events in a multiplayer platform. However in any RP sim on the Grid this kind of player would be policyed, warned or kicked... In NOR no, in NOR  they make them Admins -  As in this case - increasing the amount of bullcraps and abuses toward the players base.
This lasted for years, till, finally they fired MikronRavenOak2 Darrow from the NOR admin group. Also this deserve a side note: successing in being flagged as an “embarrassing idiot” even inside a collection of subnormals like the NOR Admins really requires some special skill.

So, my friends in NOR reported to me this post from this guy:
MikronRavenOak2 Darrow writes:
"we all saw what amazing fantastic RP came out of the Crusaders...My favorite battle i witnessed of them was watching two lvl 7-9 demons being kicked and smacked for about an hour by 11 Crusaders... albeit a number of them showed up post battle, but that's still people who engaged the fight initially or so... the level 30's and 20's (about three or four of them) had the battle... that's kinda massively unnecessary... bla bla"

Now, as founder and leader of Crusaders group I’m really pleased to read this. One could say “ok, is a common gamers whine“, true, but what delight me is that is a whine for something happened YEARS ago. Crusaders moved away, playing elsewhere but MikronRavenOak2 Darrow writes, this champion of whirlwinding faggothery, is still whining for his sore butt kicked in a videogame  2-3 years ago! :)

Crusaders was a great roleplay group in NOR, we shaked a stagnant and sad situation bringing for 2 years some life, our average combat groups where 3-5 players, rarely more. But still in the whiners fairy tales we become 10, 20, 30.... and also this always delighted me.
Sure, we had superior in combat and were never defeated, but this was due to our combat training, unity of intents and solid roleplay characterization and IC framework (in this is the real strenght, not in “numbers” or “levels”).
Still today we have a lot of people telling us how was all better in NOR when Crusaders was there and how today is all OOC and deadly boring. This is nice but reading MikronRavenOak2 Darrow still whining after years is priceless: face it, you were simply outplayed. Nothing tragic, is just a game.... Or:  more tears please, your tears feed us.

But what really make my day is this part of the post:

MikronRavenOak2 Darrow writes:
"same as crusaders, blah blah, nothing new. mindless, empty, unnecessary combat driven by either an OOC motivation or just because they need to boost their UCE kill rating. Now i am fine with CJ's they are always there..but some just really have no fucking clue how to chill out. some of us like to RP... RP is in my opinion more fun then button mashing, if i wanted that i have Gears of War 2 i can go play."

So, even now, a totally different generation of players, another meter... everything changes but they keep kicking his ass just for being such a moron  :)

What to say... Folks: keep spanking his character. It’s a favor you do to him as player. It’s educative, from this he could eventually grows and learn to properly interacting in a massive multiplayer setting. Or, if not, he will eventually  quit and go back to play Gear of War 2, a small contribute to make SL a better place.
